I was gone for a week and left the relationship between Fox and Electra to develop on its own.

Electra gave me a summary of what they had been doing while I was gone, and it definitely seems they are doing well.

I would like you to get in the right mode for this, so please open this in a new window in your browser, turn the speakers on and leave it playing in the background while reading on.

Now imagine this being a romantic movie; this is the medley part

the happy phase.

Upbeat calypso music playing in the background

Green trees and sunsets on the beach (except there is no beach)

Walks in the park on a chilly afternoon

Fox surprising Electra with small gifts

Dinner and wine with his friends, Electra joking and winning them over

Driving around buying small things at thrift shops

Laying in bed behaving like teenagers

Baking cake on a Sunday, making a small mess in his kitchen

Fox tickling Electra, Electra playing the innocent temptation

Tasting each others ice creams

Laughing together

Watching movies in the dark, snuggling against each other

Candlelit dinners, staring into each other’s eyes

Holding hands

So I guess right now all we can do is wait......

8.

It's been so long and there has been so much happening so fast, I have just kept postponing writing here. But at some point, it has to be done, so here it goes.

I'll start with the simplest of it all - Popeye. After their date, Electra simply did not hear from him again. She figured since she also had Fox, she would leave it up to Popeye to contact her.
And he didn't. We really don't quite understand why, but I have a theory that he had also decided to leave it up to her. And as these "I wont make a move until she does"-things go... it became the end of Popeye.

So at least this makes it easier for me to keep up.

Fox has seen a lot of activity though.
Last time I wrote, they were going to a comedy club, and the same night, I had the pleasure of meeting him. I must admit, the event took place after me having consumed several units of alcohol so the memory of it is rather vague but he made a good impression I believe. He was polite and friendly and perhaps a little quiet. He said he had the previous model of the cellphone I am thinking about getting. This, for some reason, I remember.

Anyhoo - after the comedy club they both went to Electra's place. They had wine and talked and it was pretty romantic and intimate. The appropriate setting for kissing, but there was no kiss. Electra half-heartedly asked him if he wanted to stay the night. Not half-heartedly because she didn't like him, but because she somehow knew it wasn't the right time. And apparently so did he - he said no to her invitation and they both spent the night alone.
The next day he texted Electra, telling her he liked her a lot.

Some days later, Electra and I went for some drinks. It turned out that Fox was in a bar only a few buildings away, and so we went there to meet him. He was with collegues and the bar was totally packed despite it being only 9pm. It was too packed for me, so I went to meet some friends, leaving Electra in the company of Fox and his collegues. Drinks led to drinks, and drinks led to touching, and several hours later, they both went back to Electra's again.
This time he spent the night - but they did not have sex. His hands did not even move close to any parts of her body that might be consideres erogenous zones. The perfect gentleman. I am not sure if this is good or bad.
This was the first night there was any physical contact.

The next day, he took her out on a proper date. The real deal, nice restaurant and expensive food - paid by Fox. They then went to her house to get the things she would need to sleep over at his place. And then they went to his. And they had sex and it was ok.
And in the morning, they woke up and they had sex again. This time though, he just stopped. Apparently, after a while, he has rolled off her and said "It's so hot in here"."And that was it. No previous warning, no attempt to make it up to her. He just stopped.
Please, never just stop.
Electra felt a slight worry developing. Malcolm had had his problems in bed, and she just didn't think she would be able to deal with that again. If Fox also had problems, she might have to stop seeing him. He would have to be pretty damn perfect in every other way in order for a sexual malfunction to be accepted.

Some days later, they met and went to an art exhibition. Afterwards, they went to his place and watched a movie, and it was the beginning of a boyfriend/girlfriend weekend. Electra spent the night and they had breakfast and spent the afternoon in a nice jazz cafe, reading papers, listening to a jazz band and holding hands. And as in every romantic movie, when the couple is not yet sure how they feel about each other, an old man came over and told them how wonderful it was to see two such pretty young people so much in love.
In the evening, they had to be seperated for some hours as he had plans, but he came to her apartment in the middle of the night and stayed there. He was in a mood she hadn't seen before, so happy and confident - and this time, sex was great.
Electra was extatic; he didnt have any problems in bed after all! A great weight was lifted off of her shoulders.
The next morning they had sex again. And unfortunately her joy disappeared, as it was over after only a minute.

She is still giving him the benefit of doubt though, it will take more than a few mediocre lays to push her away.

So that's the current situation: Electra and Fox are more or less officially dating, and next weekend, she is invited to meet his friends - all couples. A very adult thing to do.

I believe I forgot to mention that their first date was on Valentine's day... so perhaps this one is meant to be.

Wednesday was Electra's second date with Fox. He wore a white striped shirt and pretty nice jeans. She made it a point to check his teeth which were like perfect white pearls, and accidentally had a look at his crotch but couldn't draw any conclusions from it.
Things went well. Conversation was nice, they talked about their families and about his summer house on the coast and just about this and that. Again, he seemed to make an effort to avoid awkward silences and Electra found him a little hard to read. She couldn't tell whether he liked her or not (which of course he does, they all do), whereas she definitely liked him. Still, he seems quite "proper" and tidy and perhaps even mainstream, so that might be the catch? Or he might not be "proper", tidy and mainstream - it's too early to tell.
Their third date is tonight already. They are going to a comedy club this time.

Competition is tough for Fox at the moment though. Thursday night Electra had her first date with Popeye. They went to a bar and had some drinks and this is it:

He was cute, charming, more "troll-like" than in the photo (her words, I am not quite sure what it means. Come to think of it, she also said he reminded her of her grandfather...)
He was wearing wannabe-posh clothes but she could tell he was originally of - uhm, how should I phrase this - lower "social circumstances".
He looked at her a lot (and her cleavage) and asked her lots of questions. She told him she was also "dating" Fox, which he didn't seem too pleased to hear. Nice, white teeth. It was all very relaxing and fun, and he asked her why she is single, so she asked him the same. He said it's because he's picky, but she could tell he liked her.
He paid all her drinks, and just as she was about to order new ones, he said he was going to head home. This was at about 11pm, so he might be the sensible type.
All in all a good but short date, and she will definitely see him again. Perhaps on Sunday.

We've got ourselves a race.....

Ok, just to get it out of the way and to narrow down the number of names, I am announcing that Electra has finally sent Billy the official text message saying they're just too different and the physical distance is too big. So that's the end of Billy too.

There has been no contact with Malcolm since he left her bed. This is probably both due to him being embarrassed by his poor performance as well as Electra having opened her eyes to yet another suitor...
Let me introduce Fox:
-190 cm
-30 years old
-Teeth not noticed, i.e. probably not too bad
-IT engineer
-possibility of lacking "an edge" but the first seemingly normal person Electra has met through meet.com

They met on meet.com a while ago I believe. Communication was slow at first but then got a bit more intense after the whole Mark thing, and Saturday they decided to meet.
As Electra entered the bar, she saw a guy staring at her from a bar stool. He looked terrible and nothing like in the photos, so she hid behind a pole and called me for advice/share her frustration. Turns out, as soon as we hung up, she discovered the real Fox, who was surprisingly pleasant. He was well dressed and had the perfect height. Electra was confused as to why he would send her such bad photos of himself when in fact he looked this good!

Conversation went easily with a few minor breaks which they both immediately tried to fill with questions about each other. Since they talked so much, Electra is unsure of whether he is interesting and fun or if she was blinded by the efforts to keep conversation going, or whether he seemed so great because she was so relieved her date wasn't the horribly guy at the bar.
Fox almost seemed too perfect, too smooth…
What's the catch...?

They have another date tonight, maybe we'll know more tomorrow.

Yet another newcomer is Popeye:
-186 cm
-30 years old
-no tooth information to date
-imports tires...? or something...

Their first date is tomorrow night, so I am looking forward to giving you all the details then!

10 days later already.

Upon receiving Mark's scary emotional rapist email, Electra was not able to answer him until the next day, as she had night life to take care of. Naturally, Mark thought she would be sitting in front of meet.com all night and interpreted the lack of response as rejection. This actually made things easier for Electra, as it enabled her to let him go with a simple "thank you, and good bye". And so that was the end of Mark.

Billy is also slowly fading from Electra's life. Every now and then a text message appears on her mobile but I believe meeting him is no longer especially interesting. However, if he happened to be in town and Electra was bored, she would most likely let him entertain her for an hour or two.

The most exciting of the recent events involves good old (or young) Malcolm. As Mark turned out to be a slight freak, she found Malcolm to be very straightforward and trouble-free to be around. And so, she invited him over for tea one evening.
He was tall and calm and smelt like a man, and as these things happen, they ended up in bed. They just laid there holding each other, and it was exactly what Electra needed. Peter had been a great lay but he was no good at cuddling, which is sometimes just as important. Electra was momentarily unshaven and had no interest in any hands moving around, and so the night was perfect.

Wednesday, I got home in the middle of the night to find a man's shoes in the hallway and voices coming from Electra's room. As she had told me she was going to invite Malcolm over, I knew it would be him in there. About half an hour later, he left. And so I was updated on the events of the night the next day.
They had
1 - had The Talk
2 - had Sex

1: Electra had been wanting to have The Talk for a couple of weeks now. As she was the one who had broken things off the last time, she felt like he was more into her than she was into him and was worried he might get hurt. She wanted to clarify that her calling him and cuddling with him and trying to get laid when she was drunk, did not mean that they were dating. Surprisingly, his response to her urge to talk things over, was "Yes, I wouldn't want you to get hurt".
To this day, Electra is still baffled by the answer.

And so they agreed that they were just friends who were allowed to do whatever they want with each other. I would call it a classic example of Friends With Benefits but I am not sure how Electra sees it. But with these things sorted, they proceeded to
2: having Se… oops, over.

The drama. Oh the drama.

Electra went to have a glass of wine with Mark. Mark was friendly but conversation was slow, and he did not do much to make things better. Because of his mental scar, he did not know what to ask her or how to react to anything she said, and so there were some awkward moments every now and then. All in all, not a great date.
When they were saying good bye, he gave her too long a hug while rubbing her back and intimately whispering "mmmmh.... nice...."
Huge turn-off.

So this morning, she sent him an email she had been postponing since Friday. Saying how she was not feeling very well at the moment and she was coming up with something, and how, to be perfectly honest, she was kinda tired of the whole dating thing, and how she had been dating quite a few men lately and it was all getting a bit much lately.
His reply was yet again a bit too lengthy and elaborate, but the gist of it was quite terrible. It started out telling her he was the best guy in the world, he would give her all the time she needed, he was not one to be pushy, no pressure whatsoever.
Then, the second half took quite a different turn. He wanted her now. Now. He wanted to sit next to her in a dark movie theater, he wanted to feel her up and he wanted to make love to her. Make love, not have sex, make love. She would have to decide, he told her, what will it be, the one or the other.
Feeling utterly violated and about to vomit, Electra knew that this man would have to be eliminated from her life. She therefore decided to ignore the email and brush him off somewhat gently later tonight.
Mark, however, wanted to see her now, and wrote another email, offering to make her smile now. By now, Electra was feeling pretty disgusted by Mark, men and meet.com, so she left the computer and went to watch an episode of Mad Men, only to be interrupted seconds later by a text message from Mark. It said:

The last email. Yes or no.

Electra turned her phone off.

A week has passed and things have happened. Too many things to give a clear account of, if not in a somewhat systematical order. Let's start where things stopped - Malcolm.

As it turns out, nothing happened between Malcolm and Electra. She joined him and his flat mate at an after party in their house. After drinks and whatnot, they went to bed. Electra insisting and Malcolm resisting. Malcolm was not sure it would be such a good idea but Electra disagreed. In the end she gave up and, after some hours of sleep, she went home in the early afternoon the next day. She did not hear from him all week, but invited him over for some wine this evening. He came, had wine, listened to some music, and left. Electra would like to have him as a bed buddy.
She has two theories to explain this craving (because it's definitely not his sexual skills):

1.
She is no longer with Peter and needs male, physical contact. Malcolm is simply a replacement.
2. She genuinely likes him.
She hopes it is number 2.

As for Sebastian - he has not been heard from.

Billy, however, has been a loyal candidate. They sent each other messages every now and then, and had a nice lengthy conversation on Tuesday or so. He mentioned that they would be married in five years, which was a bit odd. He made her laugh, at times because of a joke and at times because of his farmer-Goofy voice. They still had a loose arrangement to meet on Thursday.
When Thursday arrived, Electra was deeply occupied with a new suitor (see below) and so she could not care less when Billy did not text her all day Thursday to let her know whether they would meet or not. When he finally called in the evening to apologize, she was chirpy and telling him not to worry. (For extra information on possible reactions, please see entry 2, section Sebastian.)
Electra is certain she is not interested in Billy but does not rule out meeting him, as she is curious how this type of person might look and act in real life. He texted her tonight asking how her weekend has been. She hasn't answered. Yet.

The new entry to the arena is Mark. Mark and Electra met on meet.com on Tuesday.

-188 cm (according to profile)
-35 years old
-teeth not noticed due to other appearance issues
-the best in his field of whatever he does
-damaged goods

They started sending each other emails, one after the other, and they got longer and longer. Electra wanted to meet right away but Mark was reluctant. He told her he is not good at meeting new people unless it's through work, and said he was still scarred by his previous relationship.
So they kept emailing. Several long emails at all hours. He also sent her a few songs he had written, which were wonderful. Unfortunately, he asked few questions about Electra but yet he seemed like the perfect man. He also seemed to be OK looking, according to his photos on meet.com. In one of them, he looked cute and perhaps a bit vulnerable, and in the other, he looked like an American jock, i.e. not so good. Still - everything else seemed perfect. He could even be The One.
Thursday night, they were emailing each other until 2 am and Mark decided that was the time. Time for them to meet. Now or never. He decided to confess that it wasn't him, but his cousin in the photos, and sent her a real one. He looked different but not too bad, so no disaster. However, it was pretty cold outside, and Electra opted not to meet him.
On Friday, he surprisingly sent her a message inviting her for lunch, and in a rush she got ready and ran off. The message I received from her after the date - which sums it all up pretty well - said:

Date over. He looked different that in the photo. Not very attractive. A bit strange but very friendly. I'm very uncertain. A lot shorter than I thought. A little belly, I think. Bad clothes. Bad taste.. He paid for lunch.

He later sent her messages telling her he thought she was great and beautiful, and that he really liked her. She, on the other hand, thought he was short and had a belly and was very insecure. He also made some weird faces sometimes, so returning the compliment was not an option. She said the date had been nice.

Since then they have emailed each other a bit, but less frequently. The seemingly perfect man has turned out to be unattractive, twitchy and with no style.

But - be that as it may - Electra always does her best to be a decent human being. So when he asked her if she wanted to go for some wine tonight, she agreed. She was about to cancel when she heard he was wearing sweats and a hoodie but then she gritted her teeth and accepted the invitation.

When they left, about 20 minutes ago, they passed the window.
From up here, he looked alright.

About a week ago, Electra got in touch with Sebastian on meet.com.
-194 cm
-30 years old
-good teeth but long face
-economy-something, starting a new business with friends
-not nerdy. Workaholic
They sent each other some emails and talked on msn. It turned out Sebastian lived literally right around the corner, and they arranged to meet on Tuesday.

While chatting with Sebastian, Electra had also been emailing Billy, who was still mainly talking about photos and Electra coming to see him, or him coming to see her.

Tuesday and time for Electra's date arrived. Sebastian had said he'd be in a meeting and didn't quite know exactly when he'd get out of there, so Electra was waiting, ready for his call. Finally, at 10 pm she texted him, asking when we'd be out.
An hour+ passed and she did not receive an answer. Worried he'd be an unreliable asshole, she texted Billy and finally agreed to meet him on Thursday - if he drove the 2 hours here.

Eventually, a text from Sebastian arrived. He said it was late and he'd go straight home, i.e. canceling their date. After a lot of back and forth, Electra was able to write a message that didn't reveal how pissed off she was and still made him realize she was pissed off, and he agreed to meet her for a quick drink. 5 minutes later, they met and went to a café on the corner.
He was smiling a lot and was very professional about the whole date, and therefore not much was said about his previous temporary personality disorder.
They had a nice conversation and he looked terribly tired and, suddenly, he said he'd go home. And so, all of a sudden, they were saying good bye and went their separate ways.
Electra does not rule out meeting him again.

Wednesday night, Billy called her out of the blue. This was the first time they had actually talked on the phone and, unfortunately, he has a terrible farmer meets mama's boy meets Goofy-voice and says farmer meets mama's boy meets Goofy-things. Electra is hoping it's only because he's nervous.
Their date was postponed to next week, which is good, because it gives Electra's black eye time to heal a bit more.

Friday night - last night - Electra went to a party. Around 1 am she decided to venture out on town by herself to meet Malcolm.
Around 3 am, she headed to Malcolm's house for an after party.
This morning her bed is still empty.
